Working Safe, Thinking Smart

A message from Michael Norton, Head of SHEQ.

Michael Norton

As the Head of SHEQ, embedding safety and well-being into the foundations of our workforce and workplaces is an integral part of my role at Munnelly Group. My aim is to always keep our people safe—physically, and mentally.

This is why I am proud to say that we took our commitment to Health & Safety even further when we launched of our ‘Working Safe, Thinking Smart’ campaign in 2025.
The campaign represents more than just a set of rules and reminders. It is about embedding a culture of care across the Group where everyone feels safe and responsible for their wellbeing and the wellbeing of their colleagues.

By putting our people, safety, and smart thinking at the heart of everything we do, we continue to work towards our shared goal of having every single one of us goes home safely at the end of each working day.

The renewed concentration and dedication to the Group’s safety culture is close to my heart. Under the ‘Working Safe, Thinking Smart’ slogan, we have begun to make a real difference to the safety and well-being of our fantastic teams right across the UK.

FIVE VALUES IN PRACTICE

What Working Safe, Thinking Smart looks like, every day.

01

Safety First

Safety is a mindset, not a checklist. For Munnelly Group, safety always comes first, that’s why it appears first in our ‘Working Safe, Thinking Smart’ slogan. If we are working safely, everything else follows in the right direction.

02

Smart Thinking

Thinking smart means slowing down to make informed choices. It means taking a moment to breathe before reacting, so emotions don’t control your decisions. It means knowing when to step away from stress and prioritise your own wellbeing.

03

Integrity in Action

Practising integrity in the workplace is every bodies responsibility. Integrity means being honest, understanding, and compassionate—not just with your colleagues, but with yourself too.

04

Collaboration

Through open and honest communication, a culture of trust and respect can grow. When everyone feels heard and seen is when collaborations in the workplace can thrive.

05

Everyday Excellence

For us, excellence is an everyday necessity. Demonstrating and delivering excellence allows each of us at the Group to continually raise standards in safety and performance. This excellence allows us to Work Safe and Think Smart.

OUR PLEDGE

“Health & Safety isn’t just about preventing incidents, it’s about building a culture where people feel heard, supported, and proud to work—that is what ‘Working Safe, Thinking Smart’ is all about.”

Michael Norton, Head of SHEQ
